One of the London investment services companies, Mercer, conducted a survey of 221 cities. Zurich & Geneva follow suit.
Such criteria as economy, political stability, crime rate, health services, and climate and air pollution were taken into account.
Apart from that, such criteria as restaurants and theaters, sports facilities and other amenities of urban life were estimated.
As for American cities, they did not get in the list of the 10 most livable cities, unlike Canadian city of Vancouver, the German Düsseldorf, Munich and Frankfurt, Bern in Switzerland and Sydney in Australia.
However, Mercer also carried out the so-called “eco-survey”, based on water availability, air pollution, and traffic congestion. Here the USA looked much better. The Canadian city of Calgary was placed first in the world, followed by the American Honolulu.
As for Washington, it took 23rd place. The last places on the list go to African cities.
